Our house is a place where everyone is welcome. We love great food from around the world, different tastes and a wide variety of food. We are very interested in meeting new people and learning about their homelands and culture and food!
Over the last 11 years, we have hosted many international students from around the world including Mexico, Brazil, Spain, China, Italy, Japan and many South Koreans. We are still in close contact with many of them.
Our house is on a quiet, tree-lined street. In our small backyard we see bunny rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels. In the summer there is a family of beautiful red cardinals that live in the giant hedge behind our house. Our house has a gas fireplace and we like a warm and cozy house. We also have central air-conditioning for the summer.
We are a ten-minute walk from a rapid transit hub that will get you anywhere in Ottawa. We are a fifteen-minute walk from Algonquin College.
Dinner is prepared Sunday to Thursday nights. Friday and Saturday, students are rarely home, but there is lots of food for them to prepare dinner for themselves. All needs for students/ guests to make their breakfast are provided. When I prepare dinner, I make extra so the students can take them to school and have a nice hot lunch there.
There is always lots of fruit and vegetables available. I am happy to provide my guests’ favorite foods.
There is unlimited high-speed internet connection.
We keep the house clean, because we like to be surrounded by beauty and serenity. Since we only have adults stay with us, we expect that everyone will be respectful of each other and clean up after themselves. Each Saturday, for one hour, we all help to clean the house. The clothes washer and dryer and soap and fabric softener are provided. We request that laundry be done after 7 pm on weeknights and any time on weekends because the electricity is very expensive outside of those times.
My daughter Megan is almost finished her undergraduate degree in Sociology. She goes to school at Ryerson University in Toronto. She is home right now and will return to school in September 2020.
For the next year, my friend Patrizia who comes from Italy is staying with us. She is here doing a fellowship in research at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. She is lovely and fun, and although her first language is Italian, she speaks perfect English.
I work for a Business Association in Ottawa’s Little Italy neighbourhood, where I am responsible for organizing festivals and special events, managing the association, advocating for the businesses and beautifying the area. My normal work hours are 9:00am-5:00pm.
I was born here in Ottawa but have lived in Vancouver, Toronto and Fort MacMurray Alberta. I have travelled much of the world, but still have many more places I’d love to see. I am happy to be back in my home-town of Ottawa, where I have a very large family.
I look forward to meeting you and learning more about you.
